7 Barcelona players who were loaned out to other clubs for the 2022/2023 season

Barcelona brought in many players in the 2022 summer transfer market. This made the competition for the main position in their respective posts even tighter.

Some players ended up being loaned out to get more playing minutes. In addition, the loan of players also made Barcelona’s expenses slightly reduced. Here are seven Barcelona players who were loaned out to other clubs in the 2022/2023 season.

1. Clement Lenglet
Clement Lenglet’s appearance has decreased in recent seasons. The entry of many new central defenders, such as Andreas Christiansen and Jules Kunde, made Lenglet’s position even more difficult.

Not wanting his career to end quickly, Lenglet finally chose to play with Tottenham Hotspur on loan. Even so, Antonio Conte also does not always install the French defender as a starter.

2. Francisco Trincao
Francisco Trincao is officially on loan at Sporting Lisbon this season for the 2022/2023 season. The tight competition in the wing sector makes Trincao predicted to only be a bench warmer at Barcelona.

Interestingly, this season is not the first time Trincao has been loaned out to other clubs. In 2021/2022, the 22-year-old was also loaned out to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

3. Nico Gonzalez
La Masia has always produced many talented players who eventually became stars at Barcelona. One of the names that stick out is Nico Gonzalez, Pedri, and Gavi. However, Nico’s fate was not as good as his two colleagues.

Pedri and Gavi have been trusted by Xavi quite often in several games this season. On the other hand, Nico was actually loaned to Valencia to gain experience playing.

4. Alex Collado
Just like Nico Gonzalez, Alex Collado is also an alumnus of La Masia education. However, since his debut for the senior team in 2019, Collado has never been the first choice. That’s what made him loaned to Granada in the middle of the 2021/2022 season.

His appearance in Granada did not make Xavi smitten to call him. Collado was again on loan in the 2022/2023 season, this time with Elche. His debut went smoothly by scoring one goal against Almeria.

5. Samuel Umti
Samuel Umtiti has been a mainstay in Barcelona’s back line since his arrival from Lyon in 2016. However, an endless string of injuries has made him no longer the first choice in recent seasons.

In fact, in the 2021/2022 season, the French centre-back only played once for Barcelona. As a result, in order to save his career, Umtiti was willing to undergo a loan period to Lecce who had just been promoted to Serie A.

6. Sergino Dest
Besides Samuel Umtiti, there is one more player on loan in Serie A. He is defender from the United States, Sergino Dest, who was loaned to AC Milan in the closing seconds of the 2022 summer transfer window.

His desire to defend the United States in the 2022 World Cup is believed to make Dest want to defend AC Milan. The reason, he is believed to be difficult to get playing minutes if he still survives at Barcelona.

7. Abde Ezzalzouli
Abde Ezzalzouli is one of the potential wingers currently owned by Barcelona. However, with the current tight competition in that position, it is believed that Ezzalzouli will not get enough trust from Xavi because there are still Ousmane Dembele, Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati in the same position.

In order for the young Moroccan player to get enough experience, Barcelona also loaned him to a fellow LaLiga club, namely Osasuna. If he manages to perform well, it is not impossible that he will be the first choice at Barcelona.

The tight competition for a place in the Barcelona main squad forced the seven players to be willing to go on loan. So, can they look good and return to the Barcelona uniform later?
