5 Lessons from Man City’s draw: Missed chances, winning streak ends

Manchester City failed to win when visiting Southampton headquarters in the Premier League. The Citizens drew 1-1 with Soton at St. Mary’s, Sunday (23/1/2022) early morning WIB.

Southampton was able to take the lead quickly in the first half. Kyle Walker-Peters gave his team the lead after breaking into Ederson’s goal in the 7th minute.

Aymeric Laporte finally became Man City’s savior. He scored a goal in the 65th minute so that his team can take home a point from their away game this time.

The addition of one point does not change the position of Man City at the top of the Premier League standings. Josep Guardiola’s side remain at the top with 57 points from 23 matches.

So from the Southampton vs Manchester City match, what lessons can be learned? Check out the following review.

Man City’s winning streak ends
Southampton appeared very surprising against Manchester City. They managed to hold Josep Guardiola’s troops to a draw for 90 minutes of the match.

This result is not too influential for Manchester City. The reason is, The Cityzens are still ahead of their closest rivals in the Premier League standings.

However, the draw stopped Manchester City’s winning streak. Previously, The Citizens won 12 consecutive wins in the Premier League.

Guardiola’s record
Manchester City did not win a full pound at Southampton headquarters. However, the addition of one point was enough for Josep Guardiola to set a new record in the Premier League

The Spanish coach recorded that achievement from 213 matches.

Guardiola beat Jose Mourinho’s previous record of 500 points in 231 games. In third place, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp needed 242 games to collect that number of points.

De Bruyne Master
Kevin De Bruyne performed very well even though Manchester City failed to win. He made an assist for Aymeric Laporte’s goal.

An accurate free kick sent by De Bruyne was headed by Laporte into the Southampton goal. It was De Bruyne’s fourth assist for the Citizens this season.

Now De Bruyne has collected 80 assists in the Premier League. That number equals the nick of Manchester United legend David Beckham.

Mohammed Salisu Impressive
Kyle Walker-Peters managed to steal the attention after scoring a goal against Manchester City. However, the performance of Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu also deserves praise.

Salisu is one of the reasons Manchester City can’t score more than one goal. The defender from Ghana appeared solid at Southampton’s back line.

According to Squawka’s record, Salisu has made 7 successful tackles, 4 interceptions, 14 clearances and 3 blocks. He managed to successfully make the players of The Citizens frustrated.

Manchester City Miss Opportunity
Manchester City have made various efforts to beat Southampton. Josep Guardiola’s troops appeared more dominant and were able to produce a number of opportunities.

Manchester City should have scored more than one goal in that match. The reason, they got many opportunities to break into Southampton’s goal.

Unfortunately, opportunity after opportunity created always failed to produce a goal. The dullness of the front lines made The Cirizens have to settle for bringing home one point.
