5 AS Roma players who could be hijacked by Paulo Fonseca to Newcastle, Jose Mourinho is he willing or not?

Sports

Newcastle United have officially parted ways with Steve Bruce. Paulo Fonseca is a strong candidate as his successor.

Bruce left St James’ Park on Wednesday (20/10/2021) afternoon WIB. It was 13 days after The Magpies were acquired by a Saudi Arabian consortium belonging to Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Fonseca is now called strong as a potential successor. According to a report from Sky Sports UK , Newcastle will hold talks with the Portuguese coach.

Fonseca is currently without a club and AS Roma is his last club. He led the Serie A side to the semifinals of the Europa League before eventually losing to Manchester United.

If really appointed as Newcastle manager, Fonseca will have a lot of funds to buy players. He might be able to bring Roma players to England.

Here are five AS Roma players that Paulo Fonseca could sign to Newcastle.

Tammy Abraham
Tammy Abraham left Chelsea in the summer transfer window. He joined AS Roma to play under Jose Mourinho.

Abraham was able to perform quite well after coming to the Olimpico. The 24-year-old striker has scored four goals and provided two assists in 11 games.

Abraham’s impressive performance made him strengthen the England national team in the international break yesterday. Abraham doesn’t seem to mind returning to the Premier League.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Paulo Fonseca has played a major role in Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s career. The Portuguese coach managed to revive Mkhitaryan’s performance after failing to shine in England.

Mkhitaryan played 73 games under Fonseca. The 32-year-old midfielder scored 24 goals and 19 assists from these appearances.

This season, Mkhitaryan has collected two goals and two assists in eight games under Jose Mourinho. The former Arsenal and Manchester United man may be interested in reuniting with Fonseca at St James’ Park.

Chris Smalling
However, he was later eliminated from the Red Devils squad due to injury and a decline in form.

After not being included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, Smalling was then brought by Paulo Fonseca to AS Roma. The English defender was able to rise after coming to Italy.

Newcastle need experienced defenders to boost the club’s performance. Smalling helps the Magpies struggle.

Amadou Diawara
Pauolo Fonseca brought Amadou Diawara to AS Roma in 2019. The Guinean midfielder then made regular appearances with the Giallorossi.

However, Diawara did not get many opportunities to play under Jose Mourinho.

Newcastle need another quality midfielder in their squad. Diawara could be an important player for the Magpies under Fonseca.

Jordan Veretout
Jordan Veretout showed his best performance this season. He became the motor of AS Roma’s attack under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho.

The French midfielder has scored four goals and provided three assists in 11 matches. That includes two goals against Fiorentina in the first week of Serie A.

Veretout already has experience playing in the Premier League. He previously played for Aston Villa in the 2015/16 season.
