Defending champions Chelsea will visit the headquarters of the French representative, Lille in the second leg of the 2021/2022 Champions League last 16 round. The Blues have a 2-0 advantage to face host Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Thursday (17/3/2022) early in the morning at 03.00 WIB.
Chelsea is indeed the favorite, but there is an X factor that can make everything fall apart. The last few weeks, Chelsea was hit by a great storm. The polemic that befell Roman Abramovich made the non-technical side of the London team able to influence them.
The latest is the restriction on flight costs for Chelsea away games by the British Government. Kai Havertz was even willing to pay for the trip through his personal pocket.
However, the tremendous pressure from off the pitch fortunately did not have much effect on the performance of Thomas Tuchel’s men on the pitch. The players are still ready to give their best for the remainder of the season, including the trip to Lille to maintain their aggregate advantage.
This season, there is no away goals rule. If the score is even after two legs, then 2×15 minutes of extra time will be played. If it is still a draw, a penalty shootout will be held to determine the winner.
Chelsea defeated Lille 2-0 through goals from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in the first leg. Chelsea are already on the verge of qualifying, while Lille must win at least three goals if they are to turn things around.
Thomas Tuchel’s troops don’t have to worry about traveling to Lille headquarters. In terms of squad and experience, Chelsea is certainly more favored. Plus their key players are the focus. Who are the trio of Chelsea ‘s mainstay players to silence Lille? Here’s the list:
Kai Havertz – Kai Havertz is Chelsea’s mainstay striker who has started to perform well under Thomas Tuchel. He continues to gain confidence to appear as the brains of his team’s attack.
The German player also began to diligently score goals. Including the first leg against Lille at Stamford Bridge. The former Bayer Leverkusen player scored in the eighth minute. In the Champions League, Havertz has scored two goals in six matches.
Last weekend, Chelsea struggled to beat Newcastle United in the Premier League. Havertz became a hero again with a goal he scored before the game broke up.
Christian Pulisic – Agile and fast wing attackers are Christian Pulisic’s strengths. He managed to make Thomas Tuchel trust him to fill the position of left wing striker.
Agility, running fast, and having unpredictable movements are his advantages. Pulisic also scored the second goal against Lille in the first meeting in London.
This season, the player from the United States has collected one goal and two assists from four appearances in the Champions League with Chelsea.
Judge Ziyech – Hakim Ziyech is one of Chelsea’s mainstay wing strikers. If Romelu Lukaku is not introduced from the first minute, Thomas Tuchel has a powerful trio up front.
The name Ziyech completes the deadly trio with Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic. Ziyech can comb through on the right side despite having a lethal left foot.
The Moroccan has played six times for Chelsea this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. The former Ajax player has been Chelsea’s foundation in recent seasons, including when they won the Champions League last season.
