The 2023 Oscars will be held on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood. One of the much-awaited prestigious nominations, namely the Best Picture or best film category. There are a total of 10 films that have been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar 2023.

The following is a synopsis of the 10 films nominated for the Best Picture Oscar 2023.

1. All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front is a film set in Germany during World War I in 1917. This film was directed by Edward Berger and produced by Malte Grunert. All Quiet on the Western Front tells the story of the struggles and suffering of a young soldier from Germany, Paul Baumer (Felix Kammerer) in defending his country by being on the Western Front during World War I.

2. Avatar: The Way of Water

Avatar: The Way of Water is a sequel to the 2009 film Avatar directed by James Cameron. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle ROdriquez and Sigourney Weaver. Avatar: The Way of Water follows the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who has a family and is living his new life on the planet Pandora.

3. The Banshees of Inisherin

The Banshees of Inisherin is a comedy film directed and written by Martin McDonagh. The film stars Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan. The Banshees of Inisherin takes place in 1923 Ireland and is about an Irish man, Colm (Brendan Gleeson) suddenly unfriends Pádraic (Colin Farrell).


Elvis is a biopic about Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann. The film stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, the legendary “King of Rock and Roll.” Elvis tells the story of Elvis Presley’s life and career to become a world rock icon.

5. Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a science-fiction genre film wrapped in comedy elements, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. This film tells the story of Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) whose life is always beset by a barrage of problems. One day, he finds himself in a different version from another multiverse and faces his destiny as the sole savior of the universe.

6. The Fablemans

The Fablemans is a drama genre film directed by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Gabriel LaBelle, Jeannie Berlin and Julia Butters. The Fablemans tells the story of a young boy, Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) who really loves the world of cinema and dreams of making his own film.

7. Tar

Tár is a drama and musical film directed by Todd Field. The film stars Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the main character in the film. Tár tells the story of Lydia Tár, the first female chief conductor of a large German orchestra.

8. Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is an action film directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. Top Gun: Maverick tells the story of Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) returning to Top Gun after more than 30 years of career as the best Navy Pilot.

9. Triangle of Sadness

Triangle of Sadness is a comedy film directed and written by Ruben Ostlund. The film stars Harris Dickinson, Charlbi Dean, Dolly de Leon, Zlatko Buri?, and Iris Berben.

Triangle of Sadness tells the story of a pair of models who are invited on a luxury cruise ship, but end up stranded on a deserted island due to an unexpected incident.

10. Women Talking

Women Talking is a film adaptation of a book with the same title, by Miriam Toews. The film, directed by Sarah Polley, stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley and Frances McDormand. Women Talking is about women who are isolated by religion and struggle to come to terms with their faith after a series of sexual assaults befalls them.
