2022 World Cup stadium profile: Khalifa International

 

Khalifa International Stadium is one of the mega venues for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Eight matches were played at this stadium. Six group stage matches, round of 16 matches and the fight for third place.

Built in 1976, Khalifa International Stadium is known for hosting the Asian Games, Arab Golf Cup and AFC Asian Cup. In 2019, the stadium will host the IAAF World Athletics Championships and the 2019 IFA Qatar World Club Championships.

Following Qatar’s candidacy to host the 2022 World Cup, the stadium was renovated from 2014 to 2017. Previously, in 2003 to 2005, the stadium was also renovated.

Capable of accommodating 45,416 spectators, the double stadium is now equipped with a wide canopy that supports the stadium’s integration with the new cooling system.

Located in the heart of the Aspire Zone – Qatar’s center of sporting excellence, which was the base of the 2006 Asian Games, the area is designed to encourage participation in sport.

Aspetar Sports Medicine Hospital, Aspire Dome (the world’s largest indoor sports hall), Hamad Aquatic Center and Aspire Park are part of the Aspire Zone.

Moreover, the stadium is just a stone’s throw from The Torch Doha Hotel and Villagio Mall.

Watch the Exciting World Cup 2022 at Emtek Group
